Communication: School Closure Grade 0 to FI Parents

Posted: March 16, 2020

Dear Grade 0 to Form I Parents,

In line with the announcement by President Ramaphosa this evening, Roedean School (SA) will be closed effective Wednesday 18 March, until further notice.  We will keep you updated about the date of re-opening.

While this announcement has come unexpectedly early, your daughters will be able to do a great deal of work, using our on-line platforms, from Wednesday onwards.

The teachers will be working closely with our HOD of ICT over the next two days to ensure that an age appropriate online platform is setup and in place. We will be using the next two days to try to ensure that your daughters know how to access online content, complete work and submit it. There will be a daily timetable to follow, and learning and teaching will continue using these online platforms.

Our Grade 0 and Grade 1 girls will be shown how to use “voice notes” to ask questions and they will learn how to access both voice and video instructions created by their teachers.

We will send video instructions and links to all parents so that you can help your daughters to access work.  Parents are free to email the teachers anytime between 08h00 and 15h00 each day for further assistance.  It will be business as usual for the staff who will also be working remotely.

As time progresses, we look forward to being able to present more on-line learning material and, as the staff become more expert at using new platform, material should become more varied and exciting.

We suggest using one of the following devices:

  • Tablet (Apple or Android)
  • Smart Phone with only WiFi access (if possible)
  • Laptop
  • Desktop with a headset and microphone (old cell phone headsets will be ideal for this)

Families who do not have WiFi at home should contact Mrs Megan Raines on or Ms Gillian Boltman on to discuss options

No sporting events will take place while the school is closed.

We apologise for the inconvenience the closure of the school may cause but assure you that we will do our best to ensure continued learning despite the closure of the school.  This decision is certainly in the best interests of the health of our nation and we are, therefore, fully in support of it.
