My Roedean Story – Kara Ranwell

Posted: December 11, 2018

I grew up in a home surrounded by ancient trees, a place of wonderful music, happy animals, and bookcases sagging under their loads. This sort of defines my life up to now!

During my primary school education, I attended Jan Celliers Laerskool in Parkview, followed by five years of mind-expanding senior school education at Roedean School (SA) in Parktown, Johannesburg. I am humbled and grateful for the enriching exposure to my fellow students, the opportunities offered and inspiring teachers who were true role-models, shaping my teenage years.

I was enabled to complete Grade 7 violin and Gr 8 piano examinations, and given countless opportunities to hone my public speaking skills. My extra-curricular activities included participation in Roedean’s orchestra and string ensemble, as well as French classes at Alliance Française to obtain a B2 French language qualification. I was privileged to take part in the President’s Gold Award program – a challenging but rewarding experience in so many ways. I further enjoy road running and aspire to complete the Two Ocean’s Half Marathon in the near future.

I enrolled for a four-year degree in International Business at Stellenbosch in 2019. My dreams for the future include obtaining global post graduate qualifications and experience, in order to be able to apply world-class skills to the South African environment. I strongly believe in South Africa’s unique opportunities and feel privileged to contribute to growth and excellence in the South African context.
