Roedean aims to support all its girls to realize their full potential and to provide the opportunities for them to develop into self-assured, happy, independent young girls. Optimal learning takes place when girls feel supported and accepted.
The promotion and care of each individual’s emotional, social and academic well being is achieved through guiding the girls and building their capacity.
To achieve this – each girl Grade O- LowerIV (Grade 6) is supported by her register class teacher and in Upper IV or Grade 7 girls are placed in smaller groups with a form tutor. Early morning registration periods allow for interaction and reflection on their academic, social and emotional wellbeing. This is known as Circle Time.
Utilising the thinking skills and strategies found in the 16 Habits of Mind, together with the monthly themes from the ‘Hurt Fee ‘programme , our weekly Chapel services and arranged talks, our girls are supported in making the responsible choices in their lives and making the most of every opportunity.
A comprehensive learning support system is in place.
Girls are closely monitored by their teachers and if any specific difficulties are identified. Parents are advised and intervention is suggested.
Teachers, psychologists, parents, occupational, speech or remedial therapists work closely with strategies to assist the girls. Ongoing teacher and parent feedback monitors intervention.
