French Spelling Bee

Published on: 25th Mar 2021

Roedean hosted the Gauteng French Spelling Bee Final, the hybrid event involved the top three spellers from various schools around the province. The three students who represented Roedean at the regional event were Rita Zeefal (Grade 11), Nandipha Makhene (Grade 11), and Aimee Conradie (Grade 10).

Aimee Conradie was one of the three finalists selected to represent Gauteng . She did extremely well at the National Finals, effectively just missing being in the top three in the ‘sudden death round’! For a grade 10 student competing with mostly grade 11s, this is a remarkable achievement! She remained calm and focused under pressure, despite the many lights and cameras around, as the event was filmed to be streamed as part of the Francophonie 2021 celebrations.

All of our participants deserve to be congratulated and no doubt learnt a lot from the experience. Aimee has commented that her vocabulary was greatly expanded and she is looking forward to participating again when she is in grade 11.
