Dear Matrics of 2021
The Roedean Matrics of 2021 are an extraordinary group. After two years of learning while trying to manage the challenges presented by COVID -19, this group maintained their zest. We had talented photographers, saxophonists, pianists and singers; phenomenal debaters and public speakers; and extraordinary sportspeople. A number of students in this group attained national representation in a variety of activities, from sport to first aid.
Academically, the Matrics of 2021 have shown incredible drive. They set their goals and ensured that they achieve them. Many of the students chose to do 8 or more subjects most successfully. Subjects like Advanced Programme Mathematics, Advanced Programme English and Spanish were selected in addition to the regular subjects on offer. This indicates young people who are well rounded, and who know the value of perseverance.
I must laud the incredible staff at Roedean too. Each staff member is a highly qualified, experienced, dedicated educationist. Without their input and wisdom, and navigating their way through online teaching so successfully, we would not be able to celebrate the Roedean class of 2021 in this way.
Matrics of 2021, you have been a truly remarkable group of young people. Go into the world with Tennyson’s words as your mantra:
“To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”
Yours sincerely
Mrs L Galanakis Acting Executive Head
