Learn-to-Swim Programme

Roedean School Learn-to-Swim Programme

Make a splash: support Learn-to-Swim

The scarcity of accessible swimming facilities, combined with South Africa’s concerning rate of drownings, particularly of children under 14 underscores the urgent need for water safety education. Roedean’s Learn-to-swim Programme is an accredited initiative that aims to equip communities with water-safety awareness and swimming skills. We encourage you to join us in supporting this life-saving initiative.

Empowering future generations, one stroke at a time

Learn-to-Swim is a graded programme where pupils from our partner  schools (Barnato Park High School, Johannesburg Girls Preparatory School and Newgate College) are taught basic water safety skills to develop their ability to swim competitively and identify their talent.

Schools that participate in the Prestige Cup are encouraged to participate in this programme by adopting an under-resourced school and providing access to their pool to support the teaching of basic water-safety principles and swimming skills.

Become a lifeline

We invite companies and our school community to help sustain and expand this vital programme. You can support us in the following ways:

  • Providing logistics and transportation: Help us ensure that every learner can access our programme by providing transport to Roedean on Wednesdays and Fridays. Your contribution will help students to benefit from our swimming lessons and build crucial life skills.
  • Providing essential gear: Donate swimwear and caps for our participants, ensuring that every child has the proper items to practice and learn with confidence.

Supporting the Learn-to-Swim Programme goes further than a donation, it’s an opportunity to build and invest in the future of safer, stronger communities.
