Overview
Roedean’s sports facilities are of the highest calibre and we take pride in achieving excellence through sport.
The school is privileged to have two swimming pools. Rebuilt in 2010, the main swimming pool is a beautiful 10-lane, 25m pool with three diving boards: a 1/2 metre, one metre and a three-metre board. This pool is used for Junior and Senior School swimming, water polo and diving.
The Jan Mallen Learn-to-Swim Pool is a four-lane, 25m swimming pool built in 2011. The pool was named after Mrs Jan Mallen, former Headmistress of Roedean Junior School. This pool is used for learn-to-swim lessons, as well as stroke correction and physical education classes for the pupils at St Margaret’s.
Roedean has a water-based AstroTurf. The luminous blue Astro has hosted teams from all over the world such as the International Premier League (IPL) Hockey.
Tennis and netball courts are situated next to the lush greenery of The Wilds. Tennis is played during the summer terms and Netball in the winter term. Spectators can enjoy their afternoons on the shaded seating, overlooking the six courts.
There is an indoor gymnasium with an impressive climbing wall. Students are welcome to use the indoor facility and equipment for gymnastics, indoor hockey and netball, yoga and stretching as well as for resistance exercises.
There are four squash courts: two are glass-backed, one in the gymnasium, and two are near the entrance to St Margaret’s.
Our Rock-climbing facilities have made it possible for us to challenge ourselves and one another, on both our colourful wall and inside the cave, as the grips are versatile and interchangeable.
