Junior Co-Curricular Activities

Music

Art and Culture play a critical role in promoting the talents of our students. Music is a highly valued subject, with many opportunities for our pupils to learn and perform.

Music

Overview

Music forms an integral part of the daily life in the Junior School at Roedean. Pupils are given the opportunity to try out various instruments as part of the class music curriculum and are then encouraged to take up a musical instrument. Our various musical groups are often seen performing for school engagements and other prestigious calendar events. Our aim is to cultivate a love of music and performing arts in our pupils from as young as Grade 0.

Roedean School has both Contemporary and Classical Music Departments, in which the students receive tuition in instruments ranging from drums and bass guitar to piano and orchestral instruments.

The Contemporary Department accommodates rehearsal facilities for the Orchestra, Jazz Band and the Rock and Pop Bands, with teaching facilities for the individual instruments. The Classical Department accommodates practice rooms and teaching facilities for individual tuition. Practical and theory examinations are offered through Trinity School of London and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in Classical, Jazz, Rock and Pop.

The Music Picnic which takes place each year in late August and is truly a highlight on the events calendar. Picnic baskets are hauled out from the backs of closets, hats are dusted off, and the Music Department prepares for a celebration of sound. Both the Junior School and Senior School music groups perform, providing enjoyment for the Roedean community.
